This afternoon Grade 10 students listened in the Small Hall as Mr. Maher, XJ International Division Principal, introduced the idea of teacher-advisory. ‘T.A.’ as it is commonly referred to in the United States is a type of academic advising. Students work with a single teacher, in small groups of no more that 6-8 students. Students and teacher form a strong relationship as they are together in teacher-advisory for three years.
Teacher-advisors help students to develop and implement academic goals, plan a program of studies over three years that is connected to their interests and passions, and, discuss how to take advantage of opportunities like AP Capstone Diploma Program, international exchanges, and service projects. College counseling also takes place in teacher-advisory as students begin to explore colleges and universities that offer programs connected to their interests and passions. T.A. does not take the place of working with our in-house college counselors; rather, T.A. adds more opportunities for students to explore colleges and discuss how they feel about colleges with their advisors.
Teacher-advisors for Grade 10 students are: Mr. Jeremiah Cook, Ms. Victoria Robinson, Ms. Julie Hankins, Mr. Paul Brown, and Mr. Jacob Barrett.
我们热爱十年级 --- 对于我们首次进行的导师制项目来说，这真是一个很好的课！！！
We love Grade 10---what a great class for our first teacher-advisory program!!!
