“I don’t have one particular dream. I just always devote myself in the things I love and they are worth my time.” —John
Drama is a new subject in AIC this year, the teacher of this subject is John. He is an American artist which has a high creativity and concentration ability. He has high attainments in art, he never stops his way in arts by getting the BFA in Visual Arts and an MFA in Acting. John is such a legendary artist in art: he was the artistic director of The Space Theatre & Studio in Manhattan and a co-founder of the Distracted Globe.
According to John’s legendary experience, we believe that lots of you want to know more about his classes. “John is quite serious during the classes, and he has very high requirements for us, he focuses on teaching how to control our attention as well.” one of his students said. Our reporters also had a conversation with John on the subject, Drama. “For Drama, this year, we are focusing on basis, fundamentals. So we are doing very basic fundamental things for students to learn to control their attention, their voice and movements.” In John’s point of view, Drama is good for students to improve their concentration. Therefore, he is kind of strict with his students.
Apart from the classes, John is also a very out-going person with a lot of interesting hobbies. “I like mountain biking and writing interactive fiction games.” we can see that John is also a person who likes the nature and interested in interacting with letters, this also laid a foundation for him to do well in drama. Reporters were also very curious about if he has some other dreams except drama, John replied: “I don’t have any one particular dream. I just always devote myself in the things I love and they are worth my time.”
“During the teaching process, I am really enjoying the feeling that I spend time with students and growing up with them together.” – Yueying
Yueying has already been working on Chinese language, devoting herself to education industry for 6 years. Before coming to AIC, she taught in an international college in Thailand. Yueying has a strong connection to the Confucius Institute which promotes Chinese language and culture around the world. She has a wealth of experience in organizing a variety of Chinese cultural activities, such as Chinese Club, Chinese Camps and Chinese New Year Assemblies in the schools she has taught. These activities have inspired students’ passion for Chinese language and culture. Her classroom is also a highly interactive, technologically-integrated and fun-based learning place. Since she has very high requirement for students in self-exploring ability in her classes. Reporters were quite interested in her teaching method, Yueying replied, “Chinese language in IB has very high requirement in students’ critical thinking, and I agree with that the thoughts of students should always have collision among each other; having a deeply exploring for oneself is really a good thing!” In Yueying’s class, even though she is strict in some aspects, but most of the time she is also very funny. Usually, she would like to create a fresh topic for students, triggers a debation, therefore, forming an active atmosphere in class. Yueying also has her own opinion in IB: “Absolutely, before you want to know more about this world, you have to understand your mother language completely.” Thus, she is trying all her best to lead the students move further in understanding their own mother language—Chinese.
“Happiness can release your stress, can take away all the bad things that surround you, and keeps you being productive.” -- Richard
Richard comes from the United States, he has extensive experience in teaching, politics, history, and so on. In AIC he also has a lot of “identities”: humanities teacher, L2L teacher and geography teacher in DP. Richard is a person who likes to explore and search for new things, that’s why he could get a hang of Chinese history. We could always recognize Richard easily in AIC, since he is always wearing ethnic-style clothes and with a big smile on his face. This triggered our curiosity about his joy and happiness: "Why are you always smiling?" " Oh! For me, I think happiness is the most important thing in my life, there is no point to do anything unless you can feel happy. Happiness allows you to release the pressure, it can take away all the bad things that surround you, which stands for both teachers and students is a very good thing.” Richard answered with a big smile, “I believe that my students can learn the best when they are happy and having fun; if the students are not happy, I don't think that I take my responsibility as a t-eacher well. “ This also conforms to Richard’s teaching style. He is always questioning the student, after he throws a question, students will discuss it actively, he would then regard this as a line for keeping a “doubt spirit”, until students could explore the question in a deeper level. Richard is such a good teacher, it’s really lucky to have such a educator in our school.
